Lurch I am playing with Dave Catlow after all. My prior engagement has been cancelled. Hopefully we can defend our title

May I Request permission to officially call my section the group of death?
Not the easiest of passages to the last 16, still fancy me and Tim to manage it though. Brad and Cats can't handle my all out defence.
In all seriousness, I think we'll be lucky to get past the first round.

Lurch why did you put all the byes at one venue? Surely that's unfair?

To the venue with all the byes. They should have been spread out.

How about the league venues that don't even get a single game? I'm sure they appreciate the new system too.

Now that was just pure gibberish, not all of the venues chosen have what most people would consider top notch tables. There are plenty of venues in York who's tables are flat and fair.
Your first point was valid, pity you went and ruined it.

Table analysis...........
The Acomb - 6 Supremes well maintained, access around all tables unrestricted.
Cueball - 4 Supremes in custom pool room and 1 bar table with slight access problem in one corner.
Huntington - Plenty of access but poor table. Should not have been selected.
Lysander - 8 foot table rules this venue out.
Tramways - Plenty of room but tables badly maintained
Bay Horse Stamford Bridge - Too far away
Rose and Crown - Can't get round table
Clifton - Can barely get round table
Bootham Tavern - Not much spectator room but I would have chosen it above Huntington.
Beeswing - Totally unsuitable
Pack Of Cards - Again I would choose this venue over Huntington.
Edinburgh Arms - Can't get round badly maintained table.
Edward VII - 6 foot table rules it out.
Winning Post Well maintained table with plenty of room.
Castle Howard Ox- Not been in since 1998 but from memory you can't get all the way around the table.
Turf Tavern Tables not perfect but plenty of room.
White Horse Poppleton - 6 foot table rules it out.
Volunteer Arms - Bad access round table.
Bay Horse Fulford - Again can't get round table which from memory was appalling.
Woodman - Poor table with no access all round.
Fulford Arms - Can't get round table.
Lighthorseman - Could easily be used as there is a specialist pool room.
Reindeer - Never played there. Can't comment.
Deramore Arms - See above
Poacher - Wasn't too bad a few years ago. Not been in for years.
Greyhound, Dunnington - Too far away
Marcia - Possibly the worst table in any York league.
Therefore with the exception of Huntington Lurch has selected the most suitable venues rendering my point extremely valid.

Looks like I'm not the only bored person today.
There's a few of your above statements that I don't agree with but it's not important, however...
Despite the fact I hate the lysander table, I can't see why it should be dismissed because it's an 8ft table. According to the commentators on sky it's the same size as they use in the final rounds of the world championships.

It is indeed but it is only used in the TV stages to make better television.
Indeed I would say that if the entire tournament was played on a 7ft table then we woud have seen a few different world champions recently.
However that is off topic.
The Lysander table cannot be considered I'm afraid as it is a non standard table, as are the 6ft ones.

We lost to Chris and Kate 3-0. Very disappointed to put up such a weak defence.

Michelle Gatenby took a night off work last night to play on the specified date only to find a piece of paper with a note saying "This section cannot be completed tonight as G Wood is on holiday"
Quite rightly Michelle and dawn claimed the match.
The other players in their section turned up almost 30 minutes late too. If Dawn and Michelle had left at 7.45pm claiming their section they would be well within their rights.
I re-iterate the point I raised inthe singles thread.
What is the point of having specific dates for competitions and then allowing people to cancel.
Nobody had the courtesy to tell Dawn or Michelle that Gareth Wood wasn't there.
Quite simply James Wood should have found a new partner.

I rang Dave Fisher and he said we could claim the match. The other 4 from Huntington then turned up and so they played with Chris Stead and Gareth Ludlam winning. Me and Michelle then won 3-2

Re the Gareth Wood/James Wood doubles situation, I have to hold my hands up and say that was my fault! As a lot of you know, I was away on holiday last week and didn't take all my pool records with me... consequently, when Dawn phoned me up and said none of their opponents had turned up to play I said give it another 20 to 30 minutes and then claim it, forgetting that Gareth Wood was away on holiday himself. Consequently, Dawn and Michelle claimed the match against Gareth and James Wood and then went on to win their match against the Whitby Tweakers ! That being the case, I have left a message for Gareth Wood on his mobile saying that he and his brother are out, and apologising for my error. Dawn and Michelle go through by right!

Nice to see Crusher is back off holiday... although I thought it was later in the week when you got back! Anyway, please could you have a word with Paul and try and arrange your doubles match against Rachel & Vicky, and then if you win, Neil Rippon & Chris Dayman! Cheers

Me & Trog won our re-arranged match 3-0 last night, and despite there being no league match on for them, it was nice to see the Beeswing lads had still put on some supper.
We also had a game of killer after the match and had a good night out, all in all!
